For over twenty years I have painted the pastoral landscapes that surround my home, a cattle farm in Virginia. My passion for color and love of animals has culminated in paintings that combine the gentle beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains with images of my cows and farmland. I often dramatize the social dynamics of the herd within this peaceful environment by using strong diagonals and intensified colors, particularly red and yellow tones. In several landscapes, the cows in my paintings stare out of the canvas inquisitively and engage the viewer in an emotional relationship with the natural world.

Caroll Callaway
Many painters paint what they see. Callaway most frequently paints that which he would like to see. His imaginary subjects, portrayed in dynamic compositions characterized by bold unctuous brushstrokes and strong color harmonies and light and dark shadow contrasts, invite the viewer to share in tranquil relaxation.
"A stunning exhibition! ... an adventure in color with brushstroke painting style showing a flair through layers of fresh bold strokes. The still-life paintings are blazoned with bright colors... Then on to the small landscapes so subtle in style they relax the eye and leave the viewer in a state of quiet repose."

Richela Chapman
"A painting is like a symphony of colors captured--
waiting in time for a viewer's participation
to release it's melody into the universe."
Richela's landscapes and innerscapes depict feelings she intends to convey to the viewer. She enjoys expressing light, sound and mood through color in composistion. Unusual design decisions and interpretations of scenes and visions make her work unique. |

Being an Advocate of "Plein Air" painting and working from life for my florals and still life, I feel that the objective of the artist is not merely to record. Fine Art does much more than that. People like to see the spirit of the artist in their work. I strive to bring the beauty of nature into the home for the viewer to enjoy and reflect upon. |

All sense of time is suspended for me while I am painting. My paintings often reflect the soft tranquility that I feel while I paint. I am fascinated by the challenges that nature presents with its ever changing light and moods. My heart fills with joy when I come close to expressing with paint what I feel and what I see.

A love of the beauty of the Southwest has been passed down in my family for many generations and I thank my parents and grandparents for sharing this love with me. As I paint the land, sky and waters of the Southwest, I do so hoping to share that beauty with you. If I am successful in my use of paint and color, then perhaps you will caatch a glimpse of what I see and feel. In a way, my paintings tell a story, perhaps you will find a story here as well. |

Kat SawyerNature has always offered Kat Sawyer her greatest challenges and her most profound sanctuary. She
has climbed mountains and jumped off of them., She has slept under the stars and crawled under the earth. She's cavorted with dolphins
and collected cowrie shells at a hundred feet below.
For Sawyer, painting "en plein air" is another way to touch the heart of Nature - Dodging insects and avoiding rattlesnakes in a quest for that
fleeting amber moment when the mountain tops blush salmon and the oak glows from within - Weathering wind and haze and heat to
capture the light on an elusive eucalyptus in a field of golden poppies - Standing ankle-deep in fresh powder while frozen fingers try to
communicate the majesty of a High Sierra morning.
Kat Sawyer will always stand in awe of Nature. With each brushstroke a mantra and each painting a sacred symbol, her works remind
us of our eternal oneness with that great wild Spirit in us all. |
